Eugene, Oregon: Drug abuse trends

Based on the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 12 percent of people in Oregon aged 12 and older had an alcohol issue. Plus, nine percent of teens admitted to drug addiction in 2020. Oregon ranked as the second worst state nationwide for drug addiction rates.

In 2020, eighteen percent of teens and adults could not get treated in the state. The number of people dying due to overdose is increasing rapidly, and in 2020 alone almost 700 people died from a drug overdose.

Opioids and stimulants were involved in almost 97 percent of all fatal overdoses in Oregon. The most lethal drugs were methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl, accounting for most deaths.

Police seized 340 grams of heroin in Eugene, Oregon

Officers in Eugene, Oregon, seized 340 grams of heroin, 44 grams of methamphetamine, 27 grams of suspected fentanyl, and 26 ounces of butane hash oil after a warrant search. Police found this large supply of substances at a 49-year-old man’s residence off North Garden Way.

When police saw him leave the location, they pulled him over, took him to the station, and searched his place with a warrant. The Eugene man has not been arraigned yet, and the drug charges are not yet in the court database. However, he was recently arraigned for several other charges.
