Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Columbus, GA
In July of 2022 in Columbus, GA, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on multiple traffic violations after he failed to stop for law enforcement and tried to flee. The driver was eventually detained, and officers discovered him to be in possession of 3.34 kilograms of methamphetamine, with a street value of about $303,560.
In April of 2022 in Columbus, GA, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Drug, Gang, and Fugitive Task Force and DEA executed a search warrant leading to the seizure of guns, money, and drugs. Officers seized more than a pound of marijuana, three ounces of cocaine, Xanax, oxycodone, ecstasy, hydrocodone, and three guns, including an AR rifle. Seven people were arrested and faced charges including the possession of a firearm during a crime, trafficking cocaine, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Community Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Columbus, GA
The Providing Overdose Reversal to give Columbus Hope, known as the PORCH Project, provided training and Narcan to Columbus first responders so they are prepared to face exposure to opioids on the job and to help overdose victims. Narcan is a life-saving drug that reverses the effects of opioids. The PORCH project receives funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
