Boise, Idaho: Drug abuse trends
Idaho has been struggling with the opioid epidemic, and drug overdose deaths have been rising. From 2015 to 2019, opioids were involved in at least 591 fatal overdoses. Experts believe this number is underestimated because no toxicology tests were performed for many deaths.
Idahoans between 35 to 54 years old comprise the highest percentage of drug overdoses. In 2019, 60,000 residents of Idaho admitted to misusing pain relievers. Youth prescription drug abuse is also high, with about 23 percent of high school seniors and more than 14 percent of high school students admitting to misusing prescription medications more than once.
According to the Idaho Board of Pharmacy, opioid prescriptions have decreased every year from 2015 through 2019. Per 100 residents, the number shrank from 92 in 2015 to 69 in 2019. However, although the number of opioids prescribed in Idaho has decreased over the years, about 1,295,474 prescriptions were still distributed in 2019.
Local initiatives to curb drug abuse in Boise, Idaho
Idaho has multiple initiatives that focus on helping those people who have trouble with mental issues or substance abuse. The SOAR effort is an initiative designed to increase access to Supplemental Security Income for people without a home who are experiencing a mental illness, medical impairment, or substance use disorder.
In 2020, the Sticker Shock Campaign in Idaho focused on underage people drinking during holiday seasons. A youth-led initiative challenged adult attitudes about selling or providing alcohol to minors. The primary purpose was to reach adults willing to break the law by giving alcohol to underage people and reducing underage drinking during the holiday season.

So, I had to schedule this (and 2 vaccinations) by phone instead of on the website because we had a credit. The CS did not ask which location would be optimal so our employee was scheduled at two different sites for the testsvacc he needed, one of which was closed down. I was able to call back and get it corrected by phone (to one location), but not until my employee drove to two different locations. Please create a way to apply credits on accounts so the website can be used for scheduling at all times, and train CSs to ask about preferred locations. We use services nationwide.

Louis was very friendly and helpful when the internet would not take my new Business Account Registration. Walked me through the steps, and I was registered and set up in just a few minutes. He was fantastic to deal with!. Sadly I cannot give a proper rating as you are apparently working on your portal now and I cannot access it fully. Maybe next week. So please don’t take my 3 as a bad thing, I mean it to be neutral. I’m glad I found you in the internet just surfing. Very friendly so far, easy to use, and send an employee down for drug testing. So far a GREAT start!
