Bill Cosby's accusers have used the phrase, "I was drugged". If you feel like you were drugged last night, you need to know if it was actually caused by a date rape drug that you were slipped unknowingly. "Date rape drug" refers to any drug used to facilitate a sexual assault; this article explains the signs and symptoms of the three most commonly used drugs for sexual assault:

Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB, aka "georgia home boy")

It should go without saying, but I need to say it anyway: the only way to know for sure if you were drugged is to get drug tested. Immediately. These drugs leave your system fast. Health Street offers emergency date rape drug tests that can detect if you've been drugged. Of course, if you've been assaulted, call the police.

Rohypnol

There are a ton of street names for Rohypnol, including: Roofies, Tiles, Rs, Ropes, Wrist Breakers, DRSs. Years ago, the only version of Rohypnol was a white tablet, but now it's more common to find ones that are football shaped and blue. The blue is actually a dye purposely included to change the color of a drink. It will also turn someone's mouth and tongue completely blue. However, if you are in the dark, at a club or bar, then you may not notice it at all.

Roofies mixed with alcohol

Roofies are most dangerous when mixed with alcohol because the effects will come on slowly, giving the victim time to go well past their normal drinking limit. It could take twenty minutes or an hour, but with alcohol, the victim will eventually pass out. This is how many sexual assaults begin. Additionally, roofies have almost no taste, and the white ones have no color. They have a soft, fine texture, so you can't feel them in your mouth. Someone can grind one up in their hand, drop the powder into your drink, and you will not notice it.

Roofies and memory loss

Rohypnol erases memory, period. This is not an exaggeration. "The Hangover" made this effect famous. But what most people don't realize is that when it is combined with alcohol, people can forget several of the hours BEFORE ingesting the roofie in addition to everything afterward.

This strange effect makes roofies a sinister date rape drug. Victims often don't remember the events leading up to an assault. In fact, there are probably many victims that will never even know that it happened. If you suspect you were give this drug without your knowledge, get a Rohypnol Drug Test now.

Gamma-HydroxyButyrate (GHB, aka Georgia Home Boy).

GHB is known on the street as G, Water, GBH, Gamma-OH, Liquid E, Liquid H, Liquid X, Scoop. GHB is almost always a liquid, though in the 1980s and early 1990s, it was easily purchased over the counter in supplement stores as a powder. GHB found early popularity within the bodybuilding community because several studies found that GHB stimulates growth hormone release.

What would you feel if you were slipped GHB?

Georgia Home Boys induce relaxation, mild euphoria, and lowering of inhibitions. GHB has some similar effects to alcohol but it is much shorter acting. It is not uncommon to see someone on GHB so intoxicated that they cannot walk and an hour later appear completely sober. The pleasant effects are extremely dose dependent and the lowering of inhibitions can quickly escalate into 'dancing on tables' type behavior. GHB is also very inexpensive and easy to make in the kitchen.

What makes GHB dangerous?

GHB dosing is highly variable, and the person who is slipping it to you doesn't care to get it exactly right. The ingredient that makes up most of GHBs volume is distilled water. Any water left over when the reaction is finished serves only to dilute the final product. When taking GHB, there is no way to know how much of the liquid left is water. Even a frequent user can have trouble getting the right dose. The effects of GHB are also heavily influenced by the physiological state of the user, things like weight and body fat, but also what the user has in their stomach.

If you were slipped undiluted GHB, the doses would be tiny, like the size of a thimble. Two sips would get you high, but three sips could put you out cold. If the perpetrator got the dose wrong, GHB has an 'off the cliff' type effect. A victim can go from dancing gleefully, to completely unconscious in less than a minute.

The less obvious danger from GHB isn't even GHB itself. Like many illegal drugs, often times the drug-buyer gets counterfeit drugs. There are two popular substitutes for GHB; 1,4-butanediol, and gamma-Butyrolactone. Both of these substitutes are distributed as GHB, and have similar effects as GHB, but there is a major difference in how they work. 1,4-butanediol does not become an intoxicating agent until after it binds to the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase in the liver. This same enzyme binds to alcohol. If your system is full of alcohol, the 1,4-butanediol will not take effect until AFTER the alcohol is gone.

GHB is very, very easy for the perpetrator to get it wrong. It is easy for him to slip you ten, twenty, fifty times a normal dose, which is like consuming ten bottles of vodka at once, and can land you in the ER or dead.

GHB and Date Rape:

GHB has definitely has contributed to assaults where the victims took GHB on purpose, but the 'slipped into the drink' scenario is less likely because of the horrific taste of GHB. However, perpetrators of date rape frequently mix GHB with things like juice to mask its vile taste. If you think were given GHB, get a Georgia Home Boy (GHB) Drug Test now.

Ketamine

Ketamine is an anesthetic primarily intended to tranquilize animals. It can be inhaled or ingested, and it induces amnesia. It is often used a rape drug because it is odorless and tasteless. It can cause hallucinations and can cause depression, high blood pressure, and respiratory problems. If you think you were given Ketamine unknowingly, get a Ketamine Drug Test now.

In summary, if you were assaulted, call the police. If you think you were drugged, get tested immediately. Call 888-378-2499.
