With a surging number of opioid-involved emergency department visits taking place across Roswell and the surrounding Fulton County, local officials developed the Fulton County Opioid Prevention Plan. This plan works to implement a variety of preventive solutions that help better respond to ongoing concerns of opioid abuse and overdose deaths across the area.

The Fulton County Opioid Prevention Plan developed four key components to provide locals with the right resources and awareness tools to address ongoing abuse concerns. The four tools included under the prevention plan include increasing the number of drug drop boxes, introducing a crisis text assistant hotline, the launch of a public awareness campaign, and enhancement of education efforts from Fulton County Medical providers.

In October 2021, a Roswell man was arrested for his role in a drug smuggling pipeline that involved multiple Georgia prisons. The discovery came after law enforcement pulled over the Roswell man for an outstanding felony drug warrant that tied him to the "Ghostface Gangsters" white supremacist gang. During the traffic stop, drug paraphernalia and numerous syringes, drug testing kits, and scales were discovered inside the vehicle.

With this evidence, Rowell police were able to obtain a search warrant for the suspect's hotel room, where they also discovered 14.7 grams of heroin, 8.5 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids, and 1.57 ounces of methamphetamine. The investigation continued when law enforcement learned that the Roswell suspect would purchase drugs, convert them to a liquid, then soak paper in the liquid substance to send to dozens of prisoners across the state for consumption.
