Local initiatives to curb drug use in Pensacola, FL
Multiple initiatives are working to combat illegal drug use in Pensacola and Escambia County. The Narcotics Unit of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office investigates drug trafficking and distribution networks. In addition to its investigative work, the unit educates about the dangers of drug abuse and encourages people to report suspicious activities to help prevent drug-related problems.
The unit also uses asset forfeiture to seize property and money gained through illegal drug activities. That disrupts criminal enterprises and provides extra resources to support further law enforcement efforts.
Besides that, there is also an initiative called #ENDOVERDOSE with the main goal of raising awareness, improving access to treatment, reducing stigma, and supporting harm reduction strategies like naloxone distribution. They also focus on investing in research, fostering community partnerships, and enacting effective policies, such as responsible prescribing and addressing social factors like mental health.
Convicted felon was caught with drugs and guns in Pensacola
In August 2024, a 53-year-old convicted felon was caught in Pensacola after a raid uncovered drugs and firearms, according to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit and SWAT Team conducted the raid after executing a search warrant. During the search, authorities seized 125.5 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of fentanyl, over 4,000 grams of marijuana, and $4,000 in cash. Additionally, officers found two firearms and a bulletproof vest, which is illegal to possess for a convicted felon. The man was arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail, where his total bond is set at $121,000.
