In December 2019, law enforcement at the Pittsburgh International Airport located in Moon Township successfully took down a massive drug trafficking ring. According to case details, local law enforcement was tipped off on the drug trafficking operation a month prior. After hours of watching the suspects move from a local hotel and storage facility to the airport in Moon Township, law enforcement arrested five suspects as they transferred luggage between vehicles.
At the time of arrest, law enforcement discovered 14 blocks of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.4 million. According to the FBI, all five suspects are originally from Mexico; three were in the U.S on visas while the other two were currently living in Arizona. All five suspects face federal charges, including the conspiracy to distribute and sell drugs though western Pennsylvania.
