In May 2023, a Millington man was sentenced to federal prison following an investigation that began in 2021. The DEA, the West Tennessee Drug Task Force, and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation, which looked into his drug trafficking activities. During the investigation, authorities seized about one-half kilogram of methamphetamine and a 9mm caliber pistol. The Millington man pled guilty and was sentenced to 230 months in federal prison.

The Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist with the Memphis Area Prevention Coalition, David Fuller, spoke about the increasing fentanyl overdoses in Millington and Shelby County. So, therefore, the solution needs to be available to everyone." He said the best way to avoid overdosing is not using illicit drugs and having Narcan on hand in case of an opioid overdose. Narcan, known by its generic name, naloxone, is an FDA-approved medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Shelby County offers Narcan training and distribution, and residents can access Narcan at participating organizations.
