Fentanyl is a dangerous synthetic opioid that is often mixed with other drugs without people even knowing, and even small amounts of this opioid can be fatal. Fentanyl is much more potent than morphine, and its availability has increased across the United States in the last few years. Experts now say that the USA is struggling with the fentanyl epidemic.

Union County Expands Addiction Intervention Services

In January of 2020, authorities announced a plan to expand Union County's addiction intervention program. For people arrested for low-level crimes involving opioids and other drugs, the program offers treatment services in lieu of criminal prosecution. According to law enforcement, there is no plan to back down on the prosecution of "the people who profit from poisoning the people we serve." However, they also understand the need to help those who have fallen into the grip of addiction.

Police seized fentanyl and handguns in Union County

The investigation by Linden Police Department and Union County Prosecutor led to the arrest of five men and the seizure of fentanyl and handguns. They found about 100 grams of fentanyl, two guns, and over 4,000 dollars.

The investigation lasted for three months and led to the arrest of five people. They took all five men into custody, but three of them were released on Pre-trial Monitoring. Two of these men remain incarcerated.
