Montgomery County District Attorney Robert Nash gave a statement after a Clarksville woman was arrested and charged with providing fentanyl-containing drugs to a man, leading to his death. "Prosecuting those who are responsible for the distribution of illegal narcotics is one of the focal points of my administration," Nash said. "Drug overdoses have reached epidemic proportions, and we have to take a stand and hold those who distribute the drugs accountable for their actions."
Clarksville Man Found Guilty of Drug Trafficking and Firearm Offenses
In May 2023, a federal jury in Nashville convicted a 29-year-old man from Clarksville, Tennessee, of drug trafficking and firearms offenses. He was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and using it in relation to drug trafficking. He and his wife were arrested in January 2022 after a federal grand jury indicted them. The conviction followed a two-day trial where evidence showed that Ellis sold fentanyl to a confidential informant while sitting in his car at a residence in Clarksville. Afterward, officers searched Ellis' vehicle and his home, finding a Ruger 9mm pistol and nearly a pound of fentanyl. At the time of his arrest, he was on bond for an unrelated murder charge and was under electronic monitoring. While in jail, he called his wife and told her to keep selling fentanyl.
