In 2016 in Saginaw County, four people faced charges for their role in a fatal heroin overdose of a Saginaw County man. All four people face charges of delivering a controlled substance causing death and face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
In 2018, a 19-year-old Saginaw County man sold heroin laced with fentanyl to a Bay County man. The Bay County man, Kamron Mast, died of an overdose after using the drugs. Tomas Garcia, of Saginaw, pleaded no contest to delivering less than 50 grams of a controlled substance and one count of delivering a controlled substance causing death. During the investigation into the death of Mast, the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Michigan State Police seized 10.5 grams of heroin, $5,000 in cash, and three pistols, including two that were stolen. Garcia also made pleas to three other drug-related charges.
In 2019, a Bridgeport, MI man and his wife, along with the man’s father, in connection with a large-scale marijuana and heroin trafficking ring. The couple faced 15 felonies each including the possession with intent to deliver between 450 and 999 grams of heroin and conspiring to commit that crime. Authorities conducted several search warrants in Saginaw County, seizing more than $400,000, ammunition, firearms, narcotics, bulletproof vests, and vehicles.
