Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the alleged father and child or children. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory.

Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone’s DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by ordering one of our testing kits online and shipping the specimens back to us.

Legal DNA Tests vs. “Peace of Mind” At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible lab testing service performed at an AABB accredited laboratory. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. A legal paternity DNA test will hold up in court for such matters as child support or to change the name on a birth certificate. This test must be performed using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Springfield DNA testing technicians are trained to follow these guidelines so that the results will be legally admissible.

Springfield, Massachusetts – DNA testing

Establishing paternity in Springfield, MA

Parentage is automatically established if parents are married, but if that’s not the case, there are two options in Massachusetts. If parents want to establish paternity, both parties can sign a Voluntary Acknowledgment form, or they can go to court.

When you decide to establish paternity voluntarily, the process is pretty straightforward. You fill out the form and file it with the City or Town Clerk’s Office or Registry of Vital Records and Statistics. Parents can also sign the form at the hospital when the baby is born.

If either of the parents has any doubts about paternity, they should not sign this form and instead ask the court for a DNA test to determine whether the alleged father is a birth father or not.

DNA test reunites long-lost siblings

Jane had been searching for her siblings for forty years. She was adopted as a kid, and said she did not look like anybody she knew. Jane felt like she did not know who she was for years. After a DNA test led her biological family members, Jane was finally able to meet with her two brothers and one sister in Massachusetts. They clicked immediately, and all these feelings disappeared.

However, the puzzle of this family is still not completed because Jane’s mother gave up on more than just one kid. Her mother raised Tim, David, and Kim, but Jane, George, and Kelly were put up for adoption. They took multiple DNA tests and hoped to find all of them and become one big family again. They are all hoping to see George and Kelly someday.

Finding George and Kelly can take many years. For now, they enjoy every moment they have together and celebrate that they found each other. This family mystery remains unsolved for now, but Jane is happy to be reunited with the siblings she has been able to track down.
