Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Manhasset, NY and Nassau County

Nassau County educates its residents on the use of naloxone. Naloxone, also known by its brand name Narcan, is a life-saving drug known to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses. Residents, first responders, and human service staff are all educated on how and when to use this medication.

In 2012, the Overdose Responder Program got its start when the Nassau County Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities partnered with colleges, community agencies, local schools, fire departments, religious organizations, and libraries. The group has hosted more than 210 training events, educating more than 9800 people about Narcan.
