In March 2023, an investigation by Kokomo Police led to the arrest of five people who were using a home to store large amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana. Kokomo police received complaints that the home, located on W. Alto Rd., was being used to sell drugs and had children inside. In February, a routine traffic stop on S. Dixon Road led to the search warrant at the home on W. Alto Road. Together, the traffic stop and the search warrant of the home led authorities to seize more than three pounds of marijuana and THC products, psychedelic mushrooms, 15 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, smoking devices, and 255 syringes.
In 2022, an 11-month-long investigation by Kokomo Police led to the arrest of 55 people. Beginning in January 2022, Kokomo drug task force detectives conducted about 77 controlled buys during Operation Crackle Ice, and officers purchased methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills, morphine, marijuana, suboxone, and Xanax. Using search warrants, traffic stops, and other techniques, officers began arresting those involved. They also patrolled throughout Kokomo, which resulted in more arrests and charges.

In December 2022, the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library's main branch added a naloxone vending machine to battle the local opioid epidemic. Naloxone is a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses and can save the lives of those struggling with opioid addiction. The library's machine is one of 19 naloxone vending machines throughout Indiana. Trisha Shively is the head of Adult and Teen Services at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library. "Addictions affect everybody," she said. "They are not prejudiced against anyone. It's needed in the community to help overcome that, to do harm reduction in the community. Our mission at the library is to create opportunities for our community to become its best. And I feel like this is just one awesome opportunity we can provide to the community."
