With this ongoing concern, the state of Tennessee developed the Prescription for Success initiative. Forged under the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the initiative incorporates various local, county, and government officials to target opioid abuse from multiple angles.
For example, one of the main goals of the initiative is to decrease the amount of controlled substances dispensed in Tennessee. To address this goal, the initiative pushes to develop more specific prescribing guidelines and regulations that create stricter prescribing practices in the medical community. Likewise, the initiative is working to increase access to intervention, treatment, and recovery services to provide communities across the state with more plentiful and effective substance abuse recovery options.
Notable Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Hermitage, TN
In February 2020, Nashville Metro Police were required to board and padlock a Hermitage home following years of numerous complaints, drug raids, and even a homicide. According to law enforcement, the residence received over 100 complaints from locals since 2013 in regards to home drug offenses, domestic disturbances, and disorderly persons. Following multiple raids in recent years, law enforcement conducted one final raid as part of an ongoing investigation stemming from a 2019 drug deal that resulted in a homicide inside of the home.
Inside of the residence, police discovered a total of 26 individuals and one infant living in the home. Heroin, narcotic pills, marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a military smoke grenade, and seven guns were seized during the raid. Eleven of the individuals held pre-existing warrants and were arrested. The raid acted as the final straw for the home, where law enforcement condemned the location to further prevent illegal activity.
