Great Falls, Montana: Drug abuse trends

In 2022, Montana saw over 1,000 overdoses, and 152 of them were fatal. Most of them involved opioids and fentanyl. In Cascade County, where Great Falls is situated, there were 108 drug overdoses, and 19 of them were deadly.

Great Falls Emergency Services (GFES) has observed an increase in the frequency of overdose deaths. Justin Grohns, General Manager of GFES, indicated that these cases have seen a rise in recent years, with opioids being a primary concern. Factors such as societal isolation and stress from the pandemic could have intensified the issue. One significant challenge in Great Falls is the presence of fentanyl in drugs, which increases the risk of overdoses because people might not be aware of it.

Great Falls man sentenced to prison for trafficking methamphetamine

In July 2023, a man from Great Falls, aged 39, was found guilty of selling methamphetamine. He received a prison sentence of five years and eight months. After serving his time, he will be under official supervision for four years. The police had been tracking him for close to a year. Their investigation led them to search his car, where they discovered two bags filled with meth.
