Fargo, ND: Drug seizure trends

In 2020, the number of seizures by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in North Dakota increased. The police seized 223 percent more fentanyl and heroin in 2020 than in 2019. The DEA seized fentanyl for the first time since 2016. Fentanyl is fifty times stronger than heroin and a hundred times more potent than morphine. Even two milligrams (equivalent to a few grains of salt) can be potent.

Authorities work hard to prevent the unauthorized street use of fentanyl, but it still frequently makes its way to the streets. People commonly make counterfeit pills spiked with fentanyl, leading to many drug overdoses.

Police in Fargo regularly seize other drugs too. In 2020, marijuana was the number one drug taken in North Dakota. Police seized 11.5 kilograms of this drug and 9 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Police seized 11,000 fentanyl pills in Fargo, North Dakota

A DEA investigation led to the seizure of 11,000 fentanyl pills in October 2022. This bust was a part of their One Pill Can Kill initiative, and three people were arrested. The North Dakota DEA also seized marijuana, morphine pills, and methamphetamine. Fargo police continue to aim to educate the public about the dangers of drugs and their impact on the community.
