Substance Abuse Trends and Statistics for East Setauket

East Setauket and the rest of Suffolk County are not immune to the opioid crisis that is impacting much of the U.S. In 2019, Suffolk County saw 345 fatal drug overdoses. This number jumped to 411 in 2020 and the following year saw a slight uptick, with 415 deadly overdoses.

According to the Suffolk County Addiction Prevention and Support 2022 Final Report, there was a small decrease in fatal overdoses last year, likely due to Narcan reversals. The county has also received over $250 million in settlement money thanks to aggressive lawsuits against drug companies and distributors. These funds will be used for continued education, prevention, and treatment programs.
