In April 2023, an Auburn man was arrested on drug charges after importing over $3 million worth of fentanyl. A large crate was delivered from Arizona to an Auburn restaurant, and restaurant employees opened it expecting an order of mugs. Instead, they found fentanyl inside. The tote also had a label with the recipient's name. The 41-year-old man had been convicted in 2007 for distributing cocaine. He was arrested again in 2023 and charged with trafficking drugs and aggravated importing. Police seized the fentanyl, worth about $3 million, and $2,780 cash.
