In April 2022, Anchorage law enforcement announced two major drug busts they called some of the largest fentanyl seizures in the history of Alaska. According to reports, the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team first received notice of a suspicious package at a commercial shipping facility. Inside the package, the team discovered roughly 2,700 counterfeit M30 fentanyl pills.

The pills were addressed to an Alaska residence, which investigators later searched. At the home, law enforcement arrested two people and charged both with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. The investigators believe that the pills held a street value of more than $100,000.

The following day, the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force was provided a tip about a suspicious package. Investigators intercepted the package and discovered it contained an additional 2,000 counterfeit M30 fentanyl pills as well as 453 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Three individuals were arrested in connection with this drug bust, which had an estimated street value of $267,900.

Operation Engage has a variety of goals, including but not limited to identifying and eliminating local drug threats, bridging local public safety and public health efforts, and identifying evidence-informed prevention strategies that best fit community needs.
