Laws and Regulations Pertaining to Substance Abuse in Aiken, SC

To combat the ongoing opioid epidemic being seen across Aiken and the surrounding South Carolina area, the governor signed House Bill H.3728 to expand ongoing substance abuse and overdose prevention tactics. Under the new bill, medical health professionals are now required to establish and maintain a program to monitor the administration of the opioid overdose antidote, Naloxone.

With this newly established program, practicing health professionals must review any patient’s controlled substance prescription history and Naloxone administration history before issuing a prescription for any Schedule II drug. Reviewing these details will help local medical professionals make more educated choices when prescribing patients potentially addictive substances, which can aid in the fight against substance abuse and potentially deadly opioid overdose.
