Avuncular DNA Test (aunt/uncle and niece/nephew)

Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.

Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Round Rock DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

Establishing paternity in Round Rock, TX

When parents are unmarried, establishing paternity means legally recognizing the father as a parent and giving him the same rights and responsibilities as the mother. In Round Rock, Texas, unmarried parents have multiple options for legally establishing paternity. The quickest way to do so would be by signing the Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) right after the baby is born. Parents can do this at the hospital, and the staff can usually help them.

Sometimes, parents do not cooperate or disagree on this matter. Either parent can file a suit to a court or hire an attorney. Once they go to court, the judge will usually ask the alleged father to take a DNA test, which is usually a simple cheek swab that a certified lab examines. The DNA test will show if the man is the child's biological father, and the judge can determine paternity with these results. Note that the judge can also consider other factors during their decision.

Round Rock, Texas: Benefits of establishing paternity

Without establishing paternity, the father has no right to custody or visitation hours and has no legal responsibility for paying child support. Establishing paternity can give the father the same rights and responsibilities as the mother and provide multiple benefits for the child.

Experts Say…

The Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC of Texas discusses the importance of establishing paternity by saying, "The word paternity, simply put, means the legal determination of who the father of a child is… If your child is born without you being married to her mother, you will have to go to extra lengths in order to be acknowledged legally as the father of the child. The process of establishing paternity is essential to creating a legal bond between you and your child, as well as furthering the already natural bond that you feel with your offspring… Paternity means that you are legally connected to your child. There are benefits that you, your child, and the mother of your child can derive from this relationship between you and your kiddo… It is important to establish an identity for him or her."

Understaffed Office

The office was hard to find as the building it is in is not numbered. The office was late for the appointment we made by almost 45 minutes. Probably due to being understaffed. There was only 1 person working there. They were having to do check in and the actual procedures too.
