DNA Test - Estero, Florida

Estero FL DNA Testing Locations

Types of DNA Tests at our Estero, Florida locations:

The most commonly ordered DNA test is a Paternity Test to conclusively establish whether or not a man is the biological father of a child.

Paternity Testing can be performed at our testing centers. DNA Testing can be done for other close family relationships, such as:

Grandparent DNA Test (if the father is not available for testing)
Sibling DNA Test (possible brothers, sisters, or half-siblings)
Avuncular DNA Test (aunt/uncle and niece/nephew)

Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.

Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Estero DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

DNA Testing in the City of Estero, FL

Woman Switched at Birth Finds Family 75 Years Later

When Sandra Baronick Pyne received the results of her DNA test, she thought there had been "some kind of a mix-up." She had grown up in a Slavic family, but her results said she was predominantly Italian. She proclaimed that she "didn't believe" in DNA stuff and forgot about it.

Several months later, Debra Monaco Zaffuto was awaiting the results of her DNA test. She was equally surprised when her results revealed that she had a sister she had never known about — a woman named Sandra Baronick Payne. Eventually, Zaffuto's brother Ron Monaco took his own DNA test, revealing that both women were his biological sisters. Further research eventually revealed the only possible conclusion — Payne and Zaffuto were switched at birth.

After learning about each other, all three siblings eventually reunited, meeting at Debra's winter home in Estero, Florida. They're happy to have discovered their new connections and look forward to spending more time getting to know one another.

DNA Test Reunites Siblings

Estero firefighter Ara Hagopian was adopted as an infant 42 years ago. He had no idea where his birth parents lived and assumed he had no siblings. He was content with his life and says he never had any complaints. However, after DNA tests revealed that had two brothers and two sisters, he was excited to finally meet them in person.

The five spent a week together, deciding to get matching tattoos before separating again. Today, they all remain incredibly close and are thrilled to have this newfound connection.

Establishing Paternity in Florida

According to Men's Rights Law Firm, which serves Lee County and the surrounding area, when a child is born to a married couple, the husband is presumed to be the child's legal father. In this case, no further action is required unless the mother or another man challenges the child's paternity.

However, if a child is born out of wedlock, both parents must sign and file a Voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity form or ask the courts to establish legal paternity. If there's a question about the identity of the child's father, the courts will require a DNA test before making a ruling.
