First established in 1998, Florida Code 442.101 requires employers to provide various details to employees regarding workplace hazards to enhance their protection while operating within the workplace. Hazard types that must be acknowledged to employees include chemicals and substances that are considered harmful to employees, such as those classified as toxic, flammable, or corrosive.
Using guidance established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Tampa employers are required to develop an Exposure Control Plan for employees at risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure, such as first responders and those employed in the healthcare industry. An exposure control plan must cover various precautionary practices and procedures to be followed in the event of potential bloodborne pathogen exposure. Under Tampa occupational health code, employers must also provide a hepatitis B vaccination series as well as post-exposure evaluation resources, such as antibody testing, following an exposure event.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are certain Tampa employees that will be required to follow tuberculosis (TB) testing requirements.
