In Washington, D.C., individuals who are 21 years or older have the right to use marijuana for both medical and recreational purposes. They are also allowed to grow six cannabis plants and hold no more than two ounces of marijuana. However, a person may still not sell marijuana to another individual, possess over two ounces, drive or boat under the influence, or use marijuana in public areas. Non-compliance with these regulations may result in penalties such as arrest, imprisonment, and fines.

Medical Marijuana: Legal

Patients with a medical marijuana card in Washington, D.C. can acquire up to two ounces of medical marijuana per month. However, consumption of medical marijuana in public places is prohibited.

Although using marijuana remains a federal offense, it is not considered a criminal act in Washington, D.C. for adults aged 21 or over to utilize or possess marijuana for medical or recreational purposes. They can possess up to two ounces, cultivate six marijuana plants, and transfer one ounce or less to another adult. This transfer must occur without any exchange of money, services, or goods, and the recipient must be at least 21 years old.
