Recreational marijuana is legal in Missouri, and medicinal marijuana is legal in for qualifying patients that meet certain medical conditions.

Medical Marijuana: Legal

Medicinal marijuana in Missouri is available to qualifying patients. To qualify for medical marijuana in the state, patients must be diagnosed with certain medical conditions, such as cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, intractable migraines or a terminal illness.

Patients may purchase up to six ounces every 30 days. Medical marijuana may be purchased from Missouri-licensed dispensaries.

Decriminalized: Yes

Missouri has not fully decriminalized marijuana but has decriminalized it to a certain degree. Although marijuana is not legal in the state, the first-time possession of marijuana in a small amount does not result in prison time and is rather treated like a minor traffic violation.

Beginning on December 8, 2022, residents of Missouri were legally allowed to possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana for personal use. Missouri became the 21st state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.
