Types of DNA Tests at our San Antonio, Texas locations:

Grandparent DNA Test (if the father is not available for testing)

Avuncular DNA Test (aunt/uncle and niece/nephew)

Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.

Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our San Antonio DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

San Antonio, Texas - DNA Testing

Establishing paternity in San Antonio, Texas

Establishing paternity can benefit the child, the father, and the entire family. If you are not married and you are the baby's biological father, you do not have legal rights unless paternity is established. In Texas, it can be established by Court-Ordered Paternity Test or Acknowledgment of Paternity.

The paternity test is straightforward. Parents and children have their cheeks swabbed at a local clinic, a local Child Support office, or court.

Challenging paternity in San Antonio, TX

If there is uncertainty at any point about who the biological father is, a DNA test is often necessary to determine whether an individual is a parent or not. A man may also question his legal relationship with a child and may not want to pay the child support.

In that case, the man must file a petition so the court can order a DNA test. If it shows the man is not the biological father, then the court can terminate the parent/child relationship and his support obligations. However, the man would still be responsible for any unpaid child support up to the termination date.

San Antonio, Texas: How to prove paternity

There can be situations when the biological father does not want to acknowledge paternity, or you believe to be the biological father, but the mother does not agree. In these cases, lawyers can be essential to help you establish paternity in court. Still, the court will probably order a DNA test as a necessary tool to either confirm or deny paternity.

Once the court establishes who the biological father is, child custody, visitation arrangements, or even child support will be established. After that, the child and the father can finally start to build what will hopefully be a solid and healthy, lasting relationship.
