In March 2023, a 41-year-old from California was sent to federal prison for 22 years for leading a drug operation that trafficked fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. The operation had distribution hubs in several cities, including Novi, Michigan. The individual, who had previously served ten years for a drug-related crime, managed an operation so extensive that a DEA seizure from one of the organization's locations was the largest fentanyl confiscation in Michigan. The illicit profits funded were used on luxury items like a high-end vehicle and a property in Los Angeles. The DEA was able to track a UPC on a PlayStation box that was used to deliver heroin. This led them to several arrests and the confiscation of many drugs.
