Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.

Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Cherry Hill DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

Cherry Hill, NJ - DNA Testing

Local DNA Stories

Gedalya and Miriam Sura Ehrenberg were one of many families torn apart by the Holocaust. The father and daughter were separated during the war and spent their lives hoping to meet again. Sadly, the two never reunited. But thanks to DNA testing, their descendants were able to find each other. Gedalya and his brother left for the United States for a new life, and he passed away in 1969. Meanwhile, Miriam Sura was still living in Poland and eventually lived in a church orphanage where she became baptized and was renamed Wanda Maria. Then, she was adopted by Jan and Kazimiera Alejnik. Wanda has little memory of these events but remembers being happy. When Wanda was 12, her adoptive parents died, and she went to live with an aunt. When she grew up, she married and lived in Poznan, where she raised a family of her own. She didn't know much about her past. She thought she was Jewish but had no real evidence, and died never knowing. However, her daughter, Ewa, wanted to learn more about her, so she took a DNA test. In December 2020, Morris Ehrenberg from Cherry Hill, New Jersey took his own DNA test and matched with Ewa. It turns out that they're cousins. Ewa was Morris's late uncle's grandchild. She contacted him, and the two made plans to meet after the pandemic. Ewa's daughter said, "It was like a huge hole in our hearts started to heal. Suddenly, we could connect the dots back to our past."

Signing a Certificate of Parentage allows the father to have his name added to the birth certificate. The form can be signed at the hospital when the child is born or at a later date. If either parent is unsure of the child's father, they should not sign the form until taking a DNA test to prove paternity.

The Importance of Establishing Paternity in Cherry Hill, NJ

Establishing paternity allows the child to develop an emotional bond with both parents, and both parents share parental rights and responsibilities. It also gives the child access to any available benefits, including health and life insurance, social security, inheritance, and veteran's benefits.
