Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the alleged father and child or children. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory.

Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by ordering one of our testing kits online and shipping the specimens back to us.

Legal DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible lab testing service performed at an AABB accredited laboratory. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. A legal paternity DNA test will hold up in court for such matters as child support or to change the name on a birth certificate. This test must be performed using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Jackson DNA testing technicians are trained to follow these guidelines so that the results will be legally admissible.

Jackson, Tennessee - DNA Testing

Establishing paternity in Jackson, TN

In Jackson, Tennessee, when both the mother and father agree on paternity, they have the option to sign the Acknowledgment of Paternity. This form must be signed before a notary and filed with the Office of Vital Records. By completing this process, the father becomes the child's legal father, and his name will be included on the child's birth certificate.

However, if parents are uncertain about or disagree on paternity, it is important not to sign this form. In such cases, it is advisable to seek legal intervention through the court system. A judge can order a DNA test, which is a reliable and painless method for establishing paternity. Typically, DNA samples are collected using cheek swabs and analyzed in specialized laboratories. Once the results are returned to the judge, paternity can be determined. Additionally, the judge can address matters such as child custody, visitation hours, and child support.

Health Street offers DNA testing services that can assist parents in establishing paternity with ease. Our tests are highly accurate, with a 99.9% reliability rate, and involve a simple cheek swab, ensuring a quick and non-invasive process.

Jackson, Tennessee: Benefits of establishing paternity

Establishing paternity provides significant benefits for both parents and children. Furthermore, once paternity is established, the father gains legal rights towards the child, demonstrating his commitment and care.
