Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Williamsburg, VA

In September 2023, a 40-year-old man was arrested on drug charges in Williamsburg during a drug operation in Lightfoot. During the operation, officers seized 15 grams of crack cocaine, 30 grams of heroin, and 132 grams of powder cocaine from the man's vehicle, a total street value of over $15,000. The man faced charges related to manufacturing, selling, and possessing controlled substances.

In February 2023, the Williamsburg Police Department joined Tri-Rivers Task Force Agents in a major drug bust in James City County. The weeks-long operation worked to take down the illegal pill network and end troubling drug activity in the community. Authorities executed a search warrant at a home in James City County, seizing about three pounds of crystal meth, over 400 illicit pills thought to contain fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia. Officers also found $13,400. A 72-year-old James City County man was arrested.

Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Williamsburg, VA

The Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education (OONE) program, known as REVIVE!, helps Williamsburg and Virginia residents recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and teaches them how to respond. The program offers lay rescuer training, teaching residents how to administer naloxone in an overdose emergency. Naloxone, also called Narcan, is a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Residents can obtain naloxone with a standing order for the general public at the local Health Department. Williamsburg residents can contact the James City County Health Department, located at 1126 Professional Drive in Williamsburg, to check the availability of the medication.
