Waukegan, Illinois: Drug abuse trends

Waukegan falls under Lake County, which has faced many challenges with substance abuse in recent years. Like many neighboring cities and much of the United States, the opioid crisis has caused deaths in Waukegan to increase. Data from the U.S. Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center shows that heroin is increasing in the region, contributing to higher numbers of overdoses. The availability of drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription opioids, MDMA, and heroin has been rising, leading to more overdoses and deaths.

Lake County, Illinois, has rolled out many prevention programs and initiatives to help individuals and families who need it. Some programs include the Coalition Development, Tobacco Prevenation and Cessation, Communications Campaigns, Promotion of Illinois Youth Survery (IYS), and Youth Prevention Education (YPE).

Waukegan man charged with drug trafficking

Investigators accused a Waukegan man of trafficking cocaine, ecstasy, and other substances in Lake County. The man, a convicted felon, now faces multiple charges for possessing different substances and weapons. The investigators had a search warrant for his residence and found 58 grams of MDMA powder, 148 ecstasy pills, 170 grams of cocaine, and 28 pounds of marijuana. There were also oxycodone pills, methamphetamine, and heroin.
