Lindsay Smith, Cenikor Foundation's acting facility manager in Waco, talked about the opioid epidemic in Waco, TX, and how anyone can be a victim of addiction. "It doesn't matter how much education they have or don't have. It doesn't matter how much money they have or don't have," she said. "It doesn't matter their religion or skin color. People of all types can be addicts."

Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Waco, TX

In Waco, TX in June of 2022, a large drug bust led to the seizure of more than $500,000 worth of meth and the arrests of three people. The drug bust followed a months-long investigation, leading officers to find 38.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 26 ounces of marijuana, about $18,000 in drug proceeds, an AR-15-style weapon, and a Glock pistol.

In June of 2022 in Waco, 27 people from the Waco area were indicted on drug charges. The arrests were the result of a multi-agency investigation into a methamphetamine distribution ring. The 27 individuals faced charges that include the conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine.
