Stamford, CT: Drug abuse trends

Experts say many people take fentanyl unintentionally, as it is mixed with other common drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin. Drug dealers do this to cut costs since fentanyl is much cheaper and more potent than other common street drugs. However, since fentanyl is about 100 times more powerful than morphine, it often leads to accidental drug overdoses. Stamford, CT has been experiencing a high number of counterfeit prescription drugs in the area that are laced with fentanyl.

In 2021 alone, 1,524 people died in Connecticut from fatal drug overdoses. This was a significant increase from the previous year.

Police seized fentanyl and arrested Stamford man

The Stamford police found more than three ounces of fentanyl in a drug raid while searching a Stamford man's apartment and storage unit. Soon after, the police arrested the man and charged him with possessing narcotics, selling narcotics, and possessing a controlled substance.

The police also seized more than $9,000 in cash. The police have been investigating the man for a while, so this was a successful drug bust. The Stamford man remained in custody because he failed to post a $175,000 bond.
