San Angelo, Texas: Drug abuse trends

Like many other cities and states, San Angelo, Texas has struggled with rising methamphetamine use, which still outnumbers many other popular drugs in the area. Heroin has also been on the rise, and with this comes the even more significant threat of fentanyl. Fentanyl is a very dangerous and potent opioid often mixed into other drugs like heroin. Even two milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal, yet its popularity continues to increase due to its powerful effects and easy availability. Unfortunately, maybe people use other drugs not realizing that fentanyl has been laced into them, leading to a considerable increase in drug overdose deaths.

Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), FBI, and police agencies throughout Texas investigate fentanyl case

In January 2022, the San Angelo Police Department joined forces with the DEA, FBI, and other police departments across the area to investigate a fentanyl distribution case. Authorities took thirteen people into custody, who may be penalized on federal criminal charges with life in prison.

Special Agent Comeaux of the DEA released a statement. "Today's coordinated law enforcement operation dismantled an enterprise responsible for the distribution of counterfeit pills; these fake pills laced with fentanyl were clandestinely manufactured to mimic the prescription pharmaceutical Oxycodone."
