Sacramento CA DNA Testing Locations

Types of DNA Tests at our Sacramento, California locations:

Avuncular DNA Test (aunt/uncle and niece/nephew)

Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone’s DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.

Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. “Peace of Mind” At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Sacramento DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

Sacramento Man Surprised to Find a Daughter After a DNA Test

Sacramento attorney Ted Wood took a DNA test hoping to find his biological father, but he was surprised to find a daughter he never knew existed instead. Wood, age 50, had met his birth mother in 1990, learning that she had given him up for adoption following a high school pregnancy. However, he was unable to locate his biological father. In a search for answers, he decided to take a DNA test, hoping to connect with him. While he came across a few distant relatives over the years, he never did locate his father.

At the same time, though, 27-year-old Melissa Daniels was searching for her biological father after learning that she was conceived using a sperm donor. Wood, who had donated sperm as a way to earn an extra $100 as a college student, was surprised when he received a message from Daniels claiming to be his daughter. While both were apprehensive at first, the two warmed up to each other and eventually arranged to meet in person.

Man Born in Sacramento Reunites with Father He Never Met

Larry Knight, a Pensacola man who was born in Sacramento, had dreamed of meeting his biological father since he was a boy. In 2019, he decided to take a DNA test and was excited to connect with a half-brother he had never met. After more research, he came across what he had been looking for—the identity of his father, a man named Rickey Jones.

Jones, a former veteran of the Sacramento Police Department, was skeptical when he was first contacted by a man claiming to be his son. However, after thinking it through, he realized that it was, in fact, possible. Jones remembered that he had come back to his hometown of Sacramento before leaving for Vietnam—almost exactly 9 months before Knight was born. They began to communicate and eventually met in person, calling the experience “surreal.”

Sacramento Kings Player Tristan Thompson Apologizes After DNA Test

Tristan Thompson, a player for the Sacramento Kings and on-again, off-again partner of reality star Khloe Kardashian, apologized publicly to her and his fans after a DNA test confirmed that he fathered a baby boy with fitness model Maralee Nichols. This admission came after a headline-making battle with Nichols, who claimed that Thompson had intimate relations with her during his 30th birthday weekend. Thompson was in a relationship with Kardashian at the time. While he admitted to the affair, he denied that the child was his and filed a lawsuit against Nichols in response to her paternity suit. That lawsuit was subsequently dismissed.
