Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the alleged father and child or children. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory.

Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by ordering one of our testing kits online and shipping the specimens back to us.

Legal DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible lab testing service performed at an AABB accredited laboratory. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. A legal paternity DNA test will hold up in court for such matters as child support or to change the name on a birth certificate. This test must be performed using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Minneapolis DNA testing technicians are trained to follow these guidelines so that the results will be legally admissible.

Minneapolis-Area Woman Finds Long Lost Sister

After taking a DNA test, Eiley Misfeldt was surprised to learn that she had a sister she never knew about. Misfeldt, who is from Eden Prairie just 12 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis, was excited to reunite with her newfound sister, Soojee Dufresne of New York. Both were adopted from South Korea when they were just a few months old, and each did not know the other existed. Dufresne, who is three years older than Misfeldt, said the discovery was a big relief for her since she often felt as if no one else was related to her. They met for the first time and are excited to spend more time together. According to Misfeldt, "We have a bucket list of wasted time that we've got to fill."

Women Switched at Birth in Twin Cities Meet After 72 Years

Denice Juneski was a blonde who grew up with a family of redheads while Linda Jourdeanswas a redhead who grew up in a family of blondes. After taking a DNA test, Juneski discovered that she was not biologically related to her parents or siblings. Around the same time, Jourdeans' niece noticed Juneski on her DNA test results. Prince's Post-Death Paternity Drama

When famous Minneapolis-born singer/songwriter Prince died in 2016, he did not leave behind a will. Just a few months later, a Colorado prison inmate filed a paternity claim with the Minnesota state courts against Prince's estate, claiming that he was his biological son. Carlin Q. Williams petitioned the courts for a DNA test, stating that his mother had a one-night stand with Prince in 1976. Under Minnesota law, when no will is found, biological children are first in line for inheritance. A judge ordered the DNA testing, but the results confirmed that Williams was not Prince's son.
