Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Medford, NY
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office is dedicated to fighting the opioid epidemic in Medford and Suffolk County. The office has provided resources to investigate and prosecute drug traffickers and dealers who distribute throughout Suffolk County. The office has also teamed up with the Suffolk County Police Department to send a rapid response to overdoses in an attempt to identify the drug dealer responsible for the overdose. In addition, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office is working with partners in the court system. The program allows defendants to participate in a drug treatment program to obtain the dismissal of their criminal charges in Suffolk County. The Diversion Opening Opportunities Program for Recovery Services (DOORS) was established in 2020 so that individuals with addiction can seek treatment and avoid low-level offenses in the criminal justice system. The DOORS program is another effort to combat the opioid problem in Suffolk County.
