Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Martinez, GA and Augusta

In June of 2021 in Augusta, GA, 31 arrests were made after authorities raided twenty locations in the area. The purpose of the investigation was to dismantle dangerous drug trafficking organizations. Twenty-four guns were seized during the raids. The 31 people arrested faced multiple drug charges including possession and distribution charges.

In January of 2020, four people were arrested and face charges of distributing methamphetamine and illegally possessing firearms. These four individuals were conspiring to distribute large amounts of methamphetamine throughout Martinez and Augusta, GA. The investigation included federal search warrants and controlled purchases. As a result of the investigation, quantities of methamphetamine were seized, along with more than $44,000 in cash and 15 firearms.

Experts Say…

Robert J. Murphy, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division, spoke about the four indictments in January 2020. “This criminal network posed a clear and present danger to the safety and security of the Augusta area,” he said, “Their removal automatically makes this community safer. These indictments illustrate how success can be achieved through the combined efforts between federal, state and local law enforcement and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”
