Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Mansfield, LA

In October 2022, a federal grand jury indicted a Mansfield physician and licensed nurse practitioner for charges related to prescription drug fraud. The physician, a licensed medical doctor at DeSoto Regional Health System, and the LPN illegally obtained and distributed drugs. The physician wrote prescriptions for schedule II controlled substances, including Adderall, hydrocodone-acetaminophen tablets, and hydrocodone-homatropine syrup, to his LPN and another unnamed person. The two individuals would fill the prescriptions at a Mansfield pharmacy and give the medications to the physician. Earlier the same month, a Mansfield woman who formally worked at the same hospital pleaded guilty to forging prescriptions to obtain pain medications.

In September 2023 in Mansfield, the De Soto Sheriff’s Office temporarily closed after multiple employees were exposed to fentanyl. An evidence supervisor became sick from fentanyl exposure and two employees who tried to help also faced exposure. The three individuals were transported to a local hospital in stable condition while Louisiana State Police hazmat rid the room of more fentanyl exposure.
