In December 2019, the Suffolk Police Department teamed up with the DEA Task Force, Suffolk S.W.A.T., the Special Investigations Section, and the Southampton County Sheriff’s Department in a joint investigation leading to a drug bust and the arrest of multiple people. The team executed multiple search warrants in Suffolk and Southampton County. Authorities seized cocaine, heroin, marijuana, multiple firearms, ammunition, cash, and packaging materials. Those arrested faced charges that included Conspiracy and Simple Possession of a Controlled Substance(s) and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Suffolk, VA

The Suffolk Police Department provides drug boxes where Suffolk residents can dispose of their unwanted, unused, or expired medications. The purpose of the boxes is to keep unused medication out of the wrong hands. According to Tom Davis, vice president of professional services at CVS Health, “The installment of drug collection units is part of our ongoing commitment to prevent drug abuse and help people in the communities we serve on their path to better health.” One drug box, located at Precinct 2, 3901 Bridge Road, is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The other box, located at the Suffolk Police Headquarters, is available around the clock.
