Schaumburg, Illinois: Drug abuse trends

The incidence of opioid-related overdoses in Cook County increased substantially between 2018 and 2020. During this period, there were 4,283 fatalities related to opioids, with fentanyl being involved in 82 percent of all deaths.

In 2020, Cook County recorded 1,840 deaths related to opioid use. The residents of Cook County are taking measures to combat this issue by raising awareness about substance use disorder and reducing the number of overdose fatalities. They stress the importance of showing compassion towards individuals struggling with substance use disorder, just as they would for individuals with other chronic illnesses.

One notable success in reducing the number of overdoses is the collaboration between WestCare Illinois and Cook County Health, which provides free housing, job referrals, and mental health treatments to those in need. The organizations also plan to organize events focused on decreasing opioid-related deaths and training individuals on how to use Narcan.

Former Schaumburg police officers busted for running drug ring

Former police officers from Schaumburg are facing charges of running a drug ring after being caught in a sting operation. The officers, who worked undercover on drugs and gangs, were allegedly selling the drugs they seized for profit. The investigation started with allegations of corruption among the officers, but things took a turn when a man was caught with ten ounces of cocaine and revealed that he was selling the drugs on behalf of the police. This led to an investigation and sting operation, which resulted in the arrest of the officers.
