Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Kingwood, TX

In the event of an opioid-overdose, Naloxone is a medication that's used to reverse potentially deadly side effects. For some time, Naloxone access was only possible if a prescriber issued a patient the medication or emergency response personnel administered it. Fortunately, in 2016, the state of Texas established a standing order to allow pharmacists who are in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy to dispense Naloxone without a prescription.

To qualify under this standing order, the pharmacist must first undergo a certification to be able to issue the medication. This certification educates health professionals on the proper use and administration of the drug. From here, if an individual or family of an individual expresses concern of opioid overdose, a pharmacist is allowed to provide the medication and administer directions without a prescription.

Local Programs to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Kingwood, TX

The program promotes an anti-criminal and drug-free lifestyle through various efforts, including behavioral, cognitive, and social learning programs. Likewise, the program helps participants establish a strong post-treatment plan with life skills programs, such as parenting skills, job readiness, and assistance establishing educational goals.
