In general, drug use in Hudson County worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts speculate that this may be due to new anxieties, isolation, and economic uncertainty. Between 2015 and 2019, the most common drugs abused in Hudson County, New Jersey were fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.

Local initiatives to curb substance abuse in Jersey City, New Jersey

Multiple initiatives are in place to curb substance abuse in New Jersey. One of them is The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ), which was created with the primary purpose of substance abuse prevention. PDFNJ seeks to enhance substance abuse prevention initiatives and educate parents across the state.

People who seek help with drug abuse can also turn to the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). DMHAS helps connect people with treatment, provides early prevention and intervention services, and supports people with recovery services.
