In 2020, Oregon ranked second highest in the United States for methamphetamine and prescription opioid abuse. Additionally, twelve percent of all Oregonians admitted to suffering from alcohol use disorder. Alcohol in Oregon is the most misused substance. To complicate matters, Oregon ranks last in the treatment options for all people with substance use disorder.

Many experts say that the state has not invested enough money in residential treatment centers and detox programs, which is only worsening the situation in the state. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the issue and increased the number of people dying from drug overdoses. Without solid support systems, such as family, friends, and different support groups, people started to use even more drugs or relapse from sobriety.

Police arrested twelve people during traffic enforcement mission in Multnomah County

The Multnomah County SheriffÅ› Office and The Gresham Police Department performed a traffic enforcement mission and made 57 traffic stops. They recovered two stolen cars and arrested twelve people. They also found fentanyl pills, drug paraphernalia, and cash. Because of the increase in violent crimes, the authorities implemented data-driven violence reduction strategies to curb the crimes. One of the solutions is patrol missions which can help to seize drugs and recover stolen vehicles.
