Greenville, North Carolina: Drug abuse trends

Greenville falls under Pitt County, North Carolina, and the latest numbers show that drug overdoses are trending upward in the area. Pitt County reported more fentanyl showing up in tests of seized drugs. In 2020, deputies of Pitt County rescued thirteen lives of people who overdosed.

Sargeant Darnell said, "If we can take the person who has been caught in the revolving door of the system, and we can help him stop that cycle, save their life, improve their life. Improve their family, then we made a difference." Greenville authorities say that drug dealers mix fentanyl into other substances to strengthen the effects, but many people overdose when they don't realize they are taking fentanyl. Although it is usually not the intention of drug dealers to kill their people, it is a frequent accident that has led to a surge in deaths.

Greenville man arrested after months of investigation for drug possession

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office led an almost four-month investigation, which resulted in charging a man from Greenville. A 50-year-old man faced several drug charges, including drug possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling. The man was later released on a $75,000 bond.
