According to the Frederick Police Department (FPD), the trend for opioid overdoses between 2020 and 2021 remained steady. Nine fatal overdoses were reported in Frederick, and 48 calls for service for opioid overdoses to FPD. The FPD also reported drug dealers using xylazine as a cutting agent alongside fentanyl. Counterfeit oxycodone tablets containing fentanyl, as well as counterfeit benzodiazepine and Xanax, were also identified as concerns.
Narcan, a drug that can reverse overdose effects and save lives, was administered in 75 percent of overdoses in 2021. The use of Narcan in 2021 showed a decrease compared to 2020.
Frederick County officials seized $750K worth of narcotics
Police arrested five men and seized $750,000 in narcotics. Detectives searched three different locations and found cash, handguns, cocaine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, crystal meth, marijuana, oxycodone pills, and fentanyl pills. They believe the drugs came from Mexico, and this was by far the most significant quantity seized in Frederick-Washington County. The law enforcement agencies involved consider this operation a significant success, as it has effectively removed a substantial amount of dangerous drugs from the streets.
