Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Davenport, IA

In October 2022, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (IHHS) announced a new statewide initiative to help curb the rising numbers of deadly opioid overdoses. Alongside many other states across the country, the new initiative will work to provide Naloxone to various Iowa organizations. Naloxone is an overdose reversal treatment drug that can be used in emergency situations to reduce the deadly effects of opioid overdose.

Under prior Iowa regulation, access to Naloxone relied on the approval and prescription of a medical professional, such as a physician or pharmacist. However, under this new initiative, there are a wide variety of entities that can request Naloxone resources, including universities, public schools, restaurants, event venues, and even libraries. With this expansive access, state officials hope to better address overdose and reduce climbing death rates across the state.

News Relating to Substance Abuse in Davenport, IA

In November 2021, two Davenport men were sentenced to 25 years in prison after being held responsible for the drug overdose death of a local resident. According to reports, the two men claimed to have distributed heroin to the victim but it was in fact fentanyl, an extremely dangerous synthetic opioid responsible for thousands of overdose deaths across the country.

According to reports, one of the suspects attempted but failed to properly administer Narcan to the victim to reverse the deadly effects of the opioid. He went to drop off the victim at a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. In addition to 25 years in prison, the offenders were also ordered to pay almost $16,000 in restitution to the family of the overdose victim.

A) Louis Cianciatto was very polite and helpful. He made registering for the tests easy and answered all my questions for me. B) I called from Moline, IL and used the Lab Corp in Davenport, IA.C) I ordered two 5-Panel urine drug tests for my husband and I. I was told to go to 3400 Dexter Court in Davenport, IA, but they longer do drug tests there. Instead I had to go to 5359 Eastern Ave. In Davenport, IA. (it's not Louis's fault, I just wanted to let you guys know for future reference)
