Initiatives that Aid in Reducing Substance Abuse in Cypress, TX

The state of Texas has experienced a surge in the amount of substance abuse issues and drug overdose deaths in recent years, which has been fueled in part by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. To counter these effects, the Texas Department of State Health Services created the Addressing Substance Use in Texas Action Plan. This plan includes various actions to combat the rising amount of deadly drug use concerns seen across Cypress, Harris County, and the surrounding Texas area.

Three key public health focus areas are being addressed under the plan, including surveillance, education, and resource development. The surveillance focus works to enhance data collection and analysis surrounding substance abuse throughout Texas. The education focus pushes to increase enhanced substance abuse training and education programs for medical professionals, public health staff, and the general public. The resource development focus works to create helpful resources for the community, including substance abuse counseling and treatment programs.
