Aaron Carter Releases Drug Test Results on Social Media
Unfortunately, we live in a world where children who succeed in the limelight are asked to grow up way too fast. The media is full of stories involving young artists and talents succumbing to the dark side of fame and glamour. The struggle of these celebrities is shared with the rest of the world, exposing their most embarrassing and painful actions. For some reason, the popular opinion is these disheartening stories make for better headlines than stories of celebrities that have been able to turn things around.
Aaron Carter’s Early Life
One child star that has faced many challenges growing up in front of the world is Aaron Carter. The talented singer/rapper rose to immediate fame after releasing his first album at the age of 9 years old. As an emerging talent, Aaron was given the opportunity in 1997 to open for one of the most significant bands of the time, Backstreet Boys, thanks in large part to his brother, Nick, being a key member. Aaron didn’t let his big brother down and managed to follow it up with a platinum-selling album that same year.
From there, Aaron grew up in front of the fans and cameras. Before reaching the age of majority, he had managed to release four full-length studio albums and appeared on many popular television series like Lizzie McGuire and 7th Heaven. Aaron Carter’s fame through the late-nineties and early-2000s is inarguable as he headlined concerts around the world. But, like many child stars, Carter struggled to remain relevant as he became older.
Aaron’s Struggles with Drug Use & Family Life
Though Aaron Carter continued to appear in the public eye through various outlets, things deteriorated in his personal life. Appearing on reality shows such as Dancing with the Stars, Carter suffered from the trauma of being a child star and mental health conditions. His life began to fall apart around him. Aaron and big brother Nick had a heavily publicized falling out in front of the world while sharing a house with their siblings on the 2006 reality television series, House of Carters. And, years later their sister Leslie passed away due to a drug overdose.
In 2011, Aaron Carter attended rehab, though what he was struggling with at the time was never revealed. In fact, the former superstar managed to keep most of his challenges under wraps for most of his adult life. It wasn’t until Carter agreed to appear on the health-focused television talk show, The Doctors, in 2017, that most of his mental health conditions were made public.
Carter was brought onto the popular daytime series to discuss drug-related arrests and his unkempt appearance openly. The former child star underwent a series of health tests, including urine drug testing. Confronted with the results, Carter opened up about his multiple mental health disorders, including schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder and manic depression. However, the results of the drug test revealed the use of marijuana, benzodiazepines and opiates. While the benzodiazepines were prescribed for Carter’s mental health, the other results were more difficult to explain.
Aaron Opens Up About His Drug Use
Though this may have been a difficult thing for Carter to confront, it also seemed to be his turning point. He took it upon himself to confront rumors of his continued drug use by talking about it on social media. The musician has been under constant scrutiny for drug usage after he opened up about it on television. In October 2019, he used his popular Instagram account to perform another urine drug test and share the results openly.
Self-recording his own video, Carter takes the urine test and shares the results as they come up. Though his previous results in recent years had indicated the use of opiates and benzodiazepines, the new analysis showed that he was clean of everything except for THC. Allowing more time for the test to clarify itself, Carter shared a second post displaying the same test results. Disappointed that the drug rumors had been impacting his reputation, Carter even offers later in the video to perform a hair drug test.
There is no doubt that Aaron Carter will struggle with his mental health battles for a long time. However, it is great to see someone of his position take his life into his own hands. Not only did the former superstar overcome his addictions, but he was also able to prove it on his own accord. Despite his many challenges, Carter can earn his fans’ trust and save his own reputation through openly sharing his drug test results. In this day and age where social media reigns supreme, Carter is breaking ground when it comes to celebrities confronting drug usage rumors.
